Introduction to the COMM 2045 Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio
This portfolio has been developed in pursuit of Prior Learning Credit for COMM 2045: Public Speaking. It presents documented evidence of my long‑term communication experience, including youth assemblies, school presentations, curriculum‑based instruction, panel discussions on mental health and cyberbullying, and a federal‑level speaking invitation. Over more than a decade of educational work across multiple school systems, I have consistently designed, delivered, and refined communication programs that require structured speech preparation, audience analysis, integration of visuals, and strategic messaging for diverse groups.
The materials included demonstrate mastery of the COMM 2045 learning objectives through real‑world application. Collectively, they show competency in verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills across youth assemblies, school presentations, and community leadership events.
My evidence also reflects organized and structured speech delivery supported by outlines, talking points, and curriculum‑based instructional materials. Through repeated presentations in high‑visibility educational and community settings, I have developed strategies for managing public speaking anxiety and maintaining professionalism under pressure. Additional competencies demonstrated in this portfolio include the effective use of visual aids in cyberbullying instruction, school programs, and digital presentations; the establishment of speaker credibility through federal recognition and school partnerships; and the application of audience analysis to tailor communication for youth, educators, and community leaders. My interviews, panel discussions, advocacy work, and public‑facing educational programs further illustrate the use of informative and persuasive communication strategies in authentic, real‑world contexts.
