PLA Closing Statement

The materials presented in this portfolio provide comprehensive evidence that my professional communication experience aligns with and exceeds the learning outcomes of COMM 2045. Over many years of delivering structured presentations to youth, young adults, and college‑level audiences, I have demonstrated proficiency in audience analysis, message organization, ethical communication, and effective verbal and nonverbal delivery. My work reflects sustained practice in designing presentations, adapting content for diverse groups, and communicating with clarity and purpose in both formal and community‑based settings.

In addition to demonstrating technical communication skills, my experience shows a clear understanding of communication anxiety and the strategies required to manage it. Through repeated real‑world practice, structured preparation, and intentional self‑regulation, I have developed the ability to maintain composure during high‑stakes presentations. This growth mirrors the developmental goals of COMM 2045 and illustrates my capacity to apply communication theory to practical situations, including managing anxiety, building confidence, and delivering messages with professionalism.

The evidence included videos, manuscripts, curriculum materials, professional correspondence, and third‑party verification, which confirms my long‑term commitment to effective communication and my ability to meet the expectations of this course at a collegiate level. My professional certifications, including Peer Recovery Specialist, Mental Health First Aid, Harwood Public Innovator, and QPR Gatekeeper Instructor, further demonstrate my ability to communicate clearly, facilitate discussions, and present sensitive information responsibly to diverse audiences.

My academic coursework has also strengthened my communication abilities in meaningful ways. At Austin Peay State University, courses such as Professional Writing and Career Readiness and Methods of Social Research required structured oral presentations, research communication, and audience‑centered delivery. At Fisk University, Business Communications provided foundational training in professional speaking and presentation design. These courses, combined with my extensive real‑world experience, have reinforced my ability to communicate effectively across settings and audiences.

Based on the depth, breadth, and documented quality of my communication experience, I respectfully submit that I have achieved the competencies required for prior learning credit in COMM 2045. As I pursue acceptance into the Master’s‑level Mental Health Counseling program, the communication skills, anxiety‑management strategies, and real‑world presentation experience demonstrated in this portfolio will directly enhance my ability to use my voice effectively in clinical, educational, and community mental‑health settings.
